It’s important to look after and take care of your jewellery. Although we believe jewellery only gets more beautiful with wear, achieving scratches and small nicks over time, it’s still important to keep your pieces clean and avoid any unnecessary damage.

How to look after your jewellery

As for daily wear, simply wearing your pieces will keep them from oxidizing, so just wear your jewellery as much as you can! Additionally, washing your jewellery daily with soap and water – and keeping your jewellery on when washing your hands or showering – is a good way to prevent oxidation and simply keep your jewellery clean of any dirt or grime you build up on a daily basis.

For more serious damage and/or need of cleaning, there are a few different do-it-yourself methods.

Keeping a professional jewellery polishing cloth around is a quick and easy way to remove any light scratches and light oxidation. Simply use the polishing cloth as-is to polish your piece – no need for water, soap or anything else.

If you really want to give your pieces a good scrub, use water, soap, and a soft sponge, soft piece of cloth or a soft-bristled toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies. You can also upgrade to using actual silver polishing compound (the same stuff used for polishing silverware) which will shine up for jewellery beautifully. Although please note that if you use polishing compound too thoroughly/roughly on your piece, it can remove the black oxidation in the details of the piece, which may not be desired. Take caution if using this method.
